Better Driving Habits To Save Money On Gas
Christine N.

1. Don't run your engine for a few minutes to warm up. Just drive a little slower down your street for a couple minutes so your engine can warm up faster.

2. Plan errands. Divide your errands up two, three or four ways depending on where your stops are. The idea is to bunch all errands of similar location in one day.

3. Do what UPS does, make more right turns. When you plan your errands, look at the map and make a loop with all your stops. When you run your errands, follow your loop counter-clockwise.

4. Easy on the gas. When the light turns green, don't step on your gas. Just ease into it and you'll burn less fuel.

5. 60 mph is the limit. On highways, 60 mph is the optimal speed for fuel usage. Go over or under 60 mph and you'll burn more fuel. Of course, obey speed limits where necessary.

6. Buy at Costco. Buying gas at Costco will save you about $0.10 - $0.20 per gallon.

7. Don't drive around looking for cheap prices. This will cost you even more money. If you happen to be at Costco and the tank is half-way, fill up. If you happen to be across town and your tank is near empty, just gas up at the closest location.

8. Remove excess weight. Weighing down your car uses more fuel to drive so if you're lugging around a huge dog crate, take it out until you need it. If you're overweight, consider losing some pounds.

9. Keep tires properly inflated.

10. Check air filters and replace them when needed.
